Example One

Lifecycle’s EBC LCR engine is used to analyse and identify sub-optimal routing patterns in interconnect traffic delivered to BT on behalf of a large fixed-line UK carrier. A weekly snapshot of sub-optimally routed minutes is taken, based on a day’s worth of call data records, and the results are published to the customer in a weekly ‘bad routing’ report, via Lifecycle’s reporting tool, DataExkavator. For each sub-optimally routed NNG, the report shows the actual route taken, the charge band associated with that route and the ten best alternatives. The report enables the customer to identify and address bad routing, the reasons for which are:

  • new codes which have still to be least cost routed: the routing of new codes is only done once they show minutes
  • DLEs or tandem routes overflowing to tandems
  • DLE or tandem routes out of service and overflowing
  • EBC changes on the routing of a code, as happens when an operator takes a code off an NGS, for example.

During periods of major data changes this weekly bad routing report provides a double check in case of data routing errors.

In addition to the weekly bad routing report, the base EBC data that is used by the least cost routing platform is also used to produce a series of occasional special reports for the customer, including:

  • lists of possible tandem routes on each switch for each mobile code: these large code blocks get proportionally routed over a number of NGS routes. When doing traffic balancing on routes, the base data look up is used to decide on alternative single tandem interconnects.

Example Two

Following a competitive request for tenders, Lifecycle’s EBC LCR platform has recently been selected for use by a large UK mobile carrier who wanted a platform that they could use to identify cost inefficiencies in the way that they route fixed-line geographic traffic across their network to BT, for termination or onward transit. Lifecycle’s EBC LCR platform provides the carrier with this capability. In addition, it enables the carrier to model, identify and report on the most cost effective alternative routes. The information obtained from Lifecycle’s EBC LCR platform will be used to support the carrier’s ongoing network planning and optimisation process.
